I always liked Blood Ryderz too. My military ranks will most likely look something like this:
Ryder Grunt: Newcomer to the Tribe. Will engage in sparring sessions with other Ryder Grunts. Once approved by a Blood Ryder, they will be promoted.
Ryder Warrior: A proven ground fighter. This is the rank where a tribal member maxes out all of the skills he/she wishes before continuing. From here they can either become one of two ranks:
Ryder Warork: The elite of the ground forces in the tribe. They will serve as backup and city protection.
Ryder-in-training: The beginning rank to becoming a Blood Ryder. In this rank, the tribal member must level a riding skill to 100 and show great skill in mounted combat. Then they will undergo a quest from one of the Blood Ryders before being accepted.
Blood Ryder: The tribe's elite cavalry division.
Ryder'zul: The leader of the tribe.

Honestly that's too many ranks to remember and too many slots to be filled. The main failure I've seen for most small rp clans on our free ultima online shard is that they create an exhaustively long list of ranks for a relatively small guild. Most ranks end up being unfilled or are spread very thinly with people being poorly distributed in the lesser ranks and no real level of importance for higher ranks.
If you want to be really effective I would trim it down to three or four ranks:
Rank example:
Rank 1:
Rank 1 exists soley to include them in guild and receive in game mechical benefets, being warred to an opposite clan, being able to communicate over clan chat, having access to store houses, ect. Rank 1 Doesn't understand rules, but they have all the benefets of being in the guild and have access to everything needed to actively participate in the guild.
Rank 2:
Someone who understands the rules of the clan and is able to follow orders well. However they don't have leadership ability yet. In reality you could probally combine ranks 1 and 2 because the difference between them over several weeks becomes very minimal.
Rank 3:
First leadership rank they serve as the backbone of sub leaders under the command of one top leader who has the final say.
Rank 4:
Rank four is the top leader who has final say on all decisions. Rank four should be able to effectively delegate and communicate to rank 3's in order to not have to micromannage every little small detail.
