Darkfall Forum Sigs

I've been looking at Darkfall forums a lot recently. One thing I noticed is that there are a lot of guilds from many different backgrounds and games on the forums. Due to Darkfall having so new many guilds I think it's important to build Bloodclans pre release publicity as one of thee larger and more established RP Orc guilds.

It's my feeling that if a person is completely new to Darkfall and they are looking at forums and possibly for a guild, the first lasting impressions are signatures below posts. If a person is completely alone and unfamiliar with all guilds, the guilds who get credibility are ones with consistent signature templates.

Most people may not want a rigid signature template, but I'll explain anyways.

Consistent Signature Template Design

If we apply the bellow items to a consistent signature template style, we can build credibility as a strong organization while still keeping individualized design.

A. Guild Name
B. Guild Symbol/Logo
C. Player Name
D. Player Picture (something to make it individualized)
E. Player Rank
F. Player Tribe

Consistent Signature Template Examples

Here are examples from three different Darkfall forum guilds:

1. The Drunken Beggar Clan
2. The Red Order
3. Society of the Anvil

Each guild includes three signatures. The styles are different but the principles remain the same. The following key will be used:

A. Guild Name
B. Guild Symbol/Logo
C. Player Name
D. Player Picture (something to make it individualized)
E. Player Rank
F. Player Tribe

1. The Drunken Beggar Clan







As you can see above, the only difference are D and C. D allows an individual expression but within a specified area. C allows whatever name but uses the same font.

2. The Red Order







The big difference with The Red Order is they use an individualized image in the background. Also The Red Order includes rank underneath name.

3. Society of the Anvil







Society of the Anvil is similiar to The Drunken Beggar Clan.

Anyways comment on whether you would like this idea or not. Keep in mind it works better with more people. I myself am only average at signature design, so I wouldn't know how to make a good looking template. But I'm sure we have a few good designers in the clan who may want to play with the idea. Maybe we can even have a poll voting contest. Below is a loose theoretical template just to get the idea across of what Bloodclan could use:

I can try to get a template going a little later, though it'll probably be a .PDN (Paint.NET format) unless we just throw our images and whatever text onto a .JPG/.PNG which is just as good.

Great idea Puark. I'd help but honestly I have no creativity when it comes to photoshop.

I don't think we should place ranks on there however. The main reason being that we don't know who would be what and wether or not players' ranks will transition to Darkfall to some degree.

What we could replace ranks with is our weapon specialization or style of playing. Here's a few off the top of my head:

Warrior
Crafter
Ranger/Archer
Spy/Thief
Mage
Medic

I believe we should keep all words in our signatures in english and try to stay away form orcish accents. Also the clan name should be in the middle of the signature and have the rest flow around to keep interest on the clan name. Another addition we could have is have the signature linked to this site.

The tribe section is pretty straight forward and gives some more diversity. One problem that I could see taking effect is that not all orcs have a tribe, so for those orcs we can take out the tribal name or replace all tribal names with quotes chosen by the orcs.

Let us know when you get the general layout complete by posting it in this thread.

Rugorium, good ideas. Especially the idea of linking to our website. For content like ranks, tribe ect. I'll be happy to use whatever as long as it's consistent. I don't know how to make the signature. But I think Luk'Luk said he may come up with something.
